Sewing Projects - Simple Burp Cloths
Not the most creative project ever, but I think pretty cute and you can never have too many burp cloths with a new baby. I especially like these because they are shaped and you won't have a bunch of fabric gathered up around your neck. The cotton print on one side is cute and cheerful and can be customized to any personality and the cotton jersey side will be soft and great for wiping mouths and dirty little noses. I just wish I had found this pattern when Allie was a little bitty!
The pattern is from HERE. It's cut on the fold and honestly it takes no fabric what so ever. I used some brand new men's tee shirts I had on hand from another project and did buy some new material for the opposite side as I really didn't have anything that screamed "baby boy." I think I sewed up 6 in no time at all and if you aren't as obsessed with everything being perfect like I am then they will go even faster. I did make a couple of changes as I'm not real interested in frayed edges that the original pattern has, so I simply sewing right sides together, left an opening to turn it right side out, gave it a good press and then top-stitched around the entire thing to finish off. Pretty simple and I did the entire thing on my 1948 Singer 99.
Hope you are having a great day my lovelies!
*NOTE: Whoa! I've had my first crazy comment left. I've had a couple of spammers, but this one was from a man boycotting American women as we are the worst scum of the earth. Please note, if you leave foul comments on my blog they will be deleted. If you leave foul comments and a link to your crackpot website, they will be deleted. I don't get a lot of traffic here, but what I do have will not be subjected to junk like that. *
What a cute idea! I've done some burp clothes on the embroidery machine using ready-made diapers, but this is so easy I'll have to try! I like the shape, too.
ReplyDeletethey are super easy and if I had had more time I would have embroidered the baby's name on them. I thought about it after the fact but I finished everything up the day of the shower. Such is life. :)
DeleteOh, yeah, I had that same email--first ever. I just deleted. Cute burp cloth, but I just always went with a diaper--that was when we used cloth diapers--can't imagine wiping a baby's burp with a Huggie--that would get way too pricey although they probably have disposable burp cloths in the throw the baby (wipes) out with the bathwater section of WalMart.
ReplyDeleteI had a great aunt that made me some burp cloths with the cloth diapers but I couldn't find any the week I needed to make these so....It's amazing all the disposable stuff they have now. I had a girl give me a box of disposable bibs. I mean really? I never used them. They were way too big and too flimsy.
DeleteI had to resort to ordering them from my good friend, Amazon, because I could not find any decent quality cloth diapers. I did have to laugh at the thought of using a Huggie for a burp wipe :). Bibs are super easy to make, too!
