Repurposed Building: Russell's Grocery

I've shown you another gas station turned church and here's one more.  This is the old Russell's Grocery in Montpelier, MS.  Montpelier is located on highway 46 in Clay County about 7 miles from where I grew up.  When I was kid this was a hopping place.  Mr. Jackie Russell's store had just about everything, grocery items, plumbing and electrical supplies, horse, dog, and cow feed, cokes, cookies, candy, bagged ice, and of course cold beer.  I'd love to know how much beer was sold out of this store over the years.

I loved the owner Mr. Jackie.  He had a big recliner he sat in behind the counter and he loved kids.  To the left of his big chair there was a container of candy and he always had a piece for us kids.

The store has been a few different things over the years since it closed including a bar-b-que restaurant and most recently a church.  Currently it is the home of New Covenant Ministries with services on Thursday and Sunday.

Church is a good thing, but I'd much rather drive up and Mr. Jackie be there with his container of candy, ice cold cokes, and benches made out of old bus seats.
