Stories of the South - Baird Machine Shop Houston, MS

Baird Machine Shop celebrated their 100th anniversary this year in Houston, MS.  There's a great article from the Chickasaw Journal here.  Not only was the shop founded in 1913 by Earl E. Baird but it's been in the same location since 1913.

They can do just about anything, as long as it pertains to metal.  I've been there several times with my Dad growing up to have this and that fixed that we didn't either have time or the tools to fix.  It's an awesome place.  That's the only way to describe it.  They have tools and equipment that has been there since the time the shop opened.  If it's a quick fix you can walk into the shop with them and watch while they repair your part.  All the guys are really nice and it's amazing to watch them work.

But then again, I'm weird. I love all things mechanical and especially wielding and machinist work because I do not have the slightest ability to do either one. My few attempts at learning to weld were abysmal.

Please go read the above article. It's well written and has some great turn of the century photos from the shop.

Have a great day my lovelies!

Oh, and welcome to all my new bloglovin subscribers!  Thanks!

  1. My son has loved welding since he was twelve. He wants to work at a machine shop and I think it would be the perfect job for him. He's always fixing things around the house.

    1. It's definitely a skill that if you're good at it, you'll never want for work.
