Noxubee County Courthouse
Macon is the county seat of Noxubee County and this is the county's sixth courthouse.
You read that right sixth courthouse.
The original court house was built June 2, 1835 for $620.
Only meant as a temporary structure the first was replaced by a brick courthouse in 1840.
The third courthouse was completed just prior to the Civil War in 1860.
The fourth courhouse was built in 1890, replacing the 1860 courthouse which was torn down.
The courthouse built in 1890 burned in 1951 and the present courthouse was built on this site.
Whew.
If this courthouse looks big, that's because it is. I don't think it's as large as the Houston, Mississippi Courthouse but it's still rather rather large. And no I don't want to talk about the fence around the front lawn and neither does anyone else in Macon.
I hope you are having a lovely Tuesday night my lovelies, someone should even if I can't and I hope it's you. Until next time!
Looks like the Ole Miss campus on game weekend. (The fence, not the courthouse. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is an eyesore and no one knows why it was put up in the first place.
