Thibodaux, LA swamp Holga Hickory Ridge Studio

Once upon a time when I was in college I went to the regional SPE (Society for Photographic Education) conference in Thibodaux, LA at Nicholls State University.  It was my very first college conference and it was definitely, let's just say, an experience.  I got to do lots of stuff for the first time.  We went to New Orleans, listened to lectures, took a polariod workshop, all good stuff.

While we were down there we went on a swamp tour.  It was also the first one of those I had been on and  it was probably my favorite part of the trip.  Riding through the bayou, listening to our tour guide explain about the swamp in a thick Cajun accent, it was awesome.  I had just gotten my Holga and being a photography major of course took lots of pictures with it and my Nikon 35mm SLR camera.  My favorites turned out to be the Holga photos.  Just in case you don't know what a Holga is, it's a plastic camera with a cheap lens that takes 120 or 35mm film.  And yes the pictures are supposed to look like this.  Holgas can give you a somewhat clear picture, or if you're lucky it gives you a dreamy, blurry, kind of dream like image.

I figured it up, these pictures are 11 years old now.  How time flies!  I still love them and look at them every so often on my computer. I have them printed somewhere too, old school from college in a darkroom. These are scans from the negatives themselves and other than lightening them up a little and burning in a corner here and there I pretty much left them alone.

What do you have planned for the weekend?  I hope it's something good and something you enjoy.  Until next week my lovelies!
